On March 14, the CHESNO movement together with Platfor.ma agency held a training on “Effective government communications: strategy, work with text, visual communications, interaction with the media” for employees of the secretariats of the Verkhovna Rada committees. The training took place after the presentation of the 2024 Transparency Ranking of the Verkhovna Rada Committees by CHESNO.
The training was attended by almost 30 employees from the vast majority of the Verkhovna Rada committees, including heads, deputy heads and consultants of the secretariats.
During the training, Platfor.ma lecturers Yulia Salizhenko and Yuriy Marchenko told the representatives of the committees about building strategic approaches to communication, key principles of creating effective text, working with visual communications, as well as the rules of working with social networks and methods of interaction with the media and key stakeholders.
The training also covered the specifics of government communications during martial law.
“The quality of communications of the parliamentary committees has improved significantly over the past two years, but new trends and tools are constantly emerging. CHESNO invited the best teachers to create a space for sharing experiences and ideas. We are grateful to the secretariat staff for their openness and willingness to learn new things,” said Vita Dumanska, leader of the CHESNO Movement.
“Communications by government agencies should be clear, human and, where appropriate, even creative. The more effectively the government explains its decisions, the easier it is to implement positive changes, keep in touch with citizens, and make the country stronger together. Transparency and open dialog help build trust, and thus good governance. The state, media and civil society should work together to ensure that communications serve a common goal – the development and strengthening of Ukraine,” emphasizes Yuriy Marchenko, editor-in-chief of Platfor.ma.
Earlier, analysts of the CHESNO Movement, upon the request of representatives of some Verkhovna Rada committees, provided a detailed analysis of their openness indicators and recommendations on how to improve the existing gaps.
In February, the CHESNO Movement conducted the fifth monitoring of the openness of the committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the IX convocation in 2024. As part of the analysis, the analysts assessed the completeness of the information published on the committees’ meetings on their official websites, as well as the presence and activity of the committees in the public space.
The event was held with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
