“Eleos-Ukraine” presented the updated ”Book of Memory of the Fallen for Ukraine”

On February 11, the Eleos-Ukraine network presented a demo version of the online memorial platform Book of Memory of the Fallen for Ukraine. The event was held at the Information and Exhibition Center of the Maidan Museum.

The project was implemented with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, and the IT Brander team worked on its update.

“We launched the Book of Memory back in July 2014. Now it’s time to update it. The uniqueness of this platform is that it contains the most complete database of fallen soldiers until 2022,” says Maksym Popov, a soldier and one of the founders of the platform.

The updated version has not only a modern design, but will also be powered by the latest technology to ensure reliable data protection. It will include 4,490 profiles of those killed between 2014 and 2022, as well as information about those killed from February 24, 2022, to date. The platform will be available in two languages – Ukrainian and English.

“It is important that the memory of the fallen is honored with dignity. Once upon a time, when a fallen soldier was brought home, it was not only mourning but also honor – he returned on a shield. In the updated version, we have abandoned dark colors, because we want the memory of the fallen to evoke not grief, but strength to live on. Even after death, the defender remains alive. He protects us and leads us forward by his example,” said Serhiy Dmytriyev, chaplain, chairman of the board of Eleos-Ukraine.

“The Book of Remembrance of the Fallen for Ukraine will become not just an archive, but a space to honor the feat of soldiers. It will contain photographs, biographical data, and stories of the fallen. Through their personal accounts, users will be able to add to the platform by uploading information about the fallen, adding photos and memories.

“We are losing testimonies and witnesses. This initiative is important because recording the stories of the dead helps preserve memory and avoid manipulation in the future. It is a reminder of the high price Ukraine pays for its independence,” said Ksenia Shapoval, director of the Civil Resilience Program at the International Renaissance Foundation.

In addition to commemorating the memory, the platform will contain information about services for the military, veterans and their families, including social, psychological and legal support.

The presentation of the demo version was aimed at gathering feedback from the public to take into account suggestions and comments before the final launch.

The platform is scheduled to be completed by the end of April, after which it will be available to all users.

The Book of Memory of the Fallen for Ukraine was founded in 2014. Its goal is to preserve and honor the memory of every hero who gave his life for the freedom and independence of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
